Live auctions are the cheat code for building a Loungefly collection without paying retail. After running our own $1-start shows, here are the five things we wish every buyer knew.
1. Set a max price before the show starts
Decide the most you will pay for a bag before you are in the heat of bidding. Auction fever is real, and the whole point is paying less than retail.
2. Watch the shipping math
A $5 win with $8 shipping is a $13 bag. Bundle wins from the same seller when you can — most sellers (us included) combine shipping.
3. Bookmark shows the day before
Whatnot notifies bookmarked followers when a seller goes live. Bookmark the shows you like and you will never walk in halfway through the grail you wanted.
4. Early lots go cheapest
The first few auctions in a show usually go for less while the room fills up. Early birds get the steals.
5. Ask about condition on camera
Good sellers will happily show zippers, straps, and corners up close. If a seller will not show the bag, that tells you everything.
